Henna goes onto the skin as a paste, very similar in consistency to icing, and then dries on the skin. During the drying process, the pigment in the paste transfers to the top few levels of the dermis, leaving a stain that lasts for about 5-10 days, depending on the placement on the body and the care that is taken to preserve the design.
